Students of IHEA-USA's Firearms Fundamentals will learn about range etiquette — including the proper
use of eye-and-ear protection.

Editor’s Note: The following concludes a three-part series highlighting the IHEA-USA’s efforts to expand hunter education in the U.S. The first two articles in this series are “IHEA-USA: Leading The Charge” and “LearnHunting.Org: Connecting Instructors & New Hunters.” (Editorial provided by the IHEA-USA.)

To meet growing demand for an accessible firearm safety education platform, the IHEA-USA developed Firearm Fundamentals — which offers safety training for all gun owners.

This expansive training resource includes modules on firearms safety best practices, responsibilities as a firearms owner, safety in the home, storing/transporting firearms, specific information on safe handling of types of firearms, ammunition, locks and safes, range safety and etiquette, firearms care and cleaning, as well as introductions to using firearms for hunting and sport shooting. The course also teaches new firearms owners about Pittman-Robertson funding, and how their purchases contribute to wildlife management in America.

For only $12 a class, Firearm Fundamentals is available in handgun, shotgun
and rifle education modules.

Courses are offered in shotgun, handgun and rifle education at an affordable price of only $12 per course, with discounts offered to students who take all three courses. These unique courses allow students to learn safe gun handling in the comfort of their own home and prepare new gun owners for everything from safe storage to what to expect on their first day at the range.

“The IHEA-USA is founded on developing and implementing standards that teach safe hunting, which involves safe firearms handling. Therefore, it made perfect sense for us to address general firearms safety for the 13 million new firearm owners coming into the marketplace over the last two-to-three- years,” said Alex Baer, IHEA-USA executive director. “Our handgun, shotgun and rifle modules are an extension of our safe firearms handling rules. All new firearm owners can benefit from these introductory training modules.”

The Firearm Fundamentals course also provides an R3 funnel to the states introducing them to new firearms owners and giving them a chance to communicate with them about hunting, local ranges, sport-shooting and other firearms-related activities in their states.

The IHEA-USA has a gun dealer and range collateral with QR codes that can direct new firearms consumers to this valuable training. It offers a significant first step to safe firearms ownership and education and supports your state’s efforts to build additional ranges.
