Welcome to the Shooting Industry Masters Blog!
Here you’ll find up to date information and changes on what’s happening at the 2012 Masters. And we have a lot happening this year.
May 15, 2012 — Remember; don’t bring your guns to town! EXCEPT for your shotgun.
Russ Thurman and Randy Molde have given the thumbs up to bringing your own shotgun. Basically, because both of them understand that gun fit, such as length of pull and comb height is critical in shotgun shooting. But there will also be loaner guns available, as our Shotgun Stage Director explains below. So, if you don’t want the hassle of bringing your shotgun, shoot one of guns provided from our sponsors. You never know, if you try it … you might like it!
Main Event – I have fielded a lot of questions about the Course of Fire and the Evening Festivities for the Masters. So, to answer the many questions about the CoF’s, I went directly to the Stage Director’s. Here’s their response:
Handgun Stage Director Sammy Reese: “I’m not telling you the course of fire no matter how much you nag me… Bribes will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Be prepared to shoot a lot and have fun. Don’t forget your sunscreen…”
Rifle Stage Director Scott McGregor: “We’re getting ramped up for the rifle stages and it’s working out to be another great time. We’ve got some really cool guns from some great companies who have come on as sponsors for the event. MGM Targets will be providing the rifle targets again. We may have a few different twists than last year, so be ready for some fun! Everything you need is provided for you, just show up and shoot. We’ve got an “A” list of Range Safety Officers lined up to help you do just that. They’re all looking forward to seeing you at “The Rock”!”
Shotgun Stage Director Roy Huntington: “Suzi and I will be running the shotgun stage, as usual. Everyone really gets a kick out of the fact the ranges used to be golf courses. Last year, people kept finding golf balls and laughing, carting handfuls around with them. What a great way to use a golf course, seemed to be the thought of the day. This year’s courses will be challenging, but not too challenging. We figured on making sure the beginners get some sure-shots to keep things fun, but there just might be a few stages where even the seasoned veterans will be left shaking their heads.
“We’ll be supplying a mix of Mossbergs and Benelli shotguns so make sure to take time and learn about the models you encounter on the various stages. It’s a good way to get familiar with different guns and just maybe find a model you’ll need to buy for yourself later!”
Side Matches – The Zombies are coming! A new Sponsor, Zombie Targets is supplying targets to two of our side matches, but I’m not telling which ones. You’ll just have to shoot them all to find your favorite zombie.
Sponsorship – If your not attending the Masters this year, but want to be involved, there’s still opportunities. Help us raise money for the First Shots program and get your product in front of a lot of folks by donating to the Masters raffle. For more information on raffle donations, contact Liz at Elizabeth@shootingindustry.com or simply click on the link and download our Raffle Submission form. But, please hurry, June 29 is our deadline to be able to list your donation and give you all the promotion we can.

May 7, 2012 — Biggest change: Don’t bring your guns to town!
This year is all firearms and ammunition are provided. We wanted to make sure that everyone has a great time, so FMG Publications is supplying all the guns and ammo. That means you, the teams, don’t need to bring anything. Just yourself and your fun meter set on high.
No hassles at the airport, no dragging around different guns and ammo in the car. Even if you bring your own gun/ammo, we’ll ask that you leave it at the door, because……..
Main Event
One of the reasons we don’t want you bringing your guns is because we’ve changed the course of fire on the rifle/pistol event to make it even more interesting. We’re created some CoF’s that will challenge even the most seasoned shooter and put a smile on the face of the novice.
Side Matches
Cowboy Up! For the first time at the Masters, there’s a Cowboy Action Side Match, sponsored by Benelli USA. All sorts of different guns will be used.
Sponsors
Diamondback Firearms has come on as a sponsor of the Cooling Station and will be giving away ice cold bottles of Diamondback water. Be sure to stop by the the cooling station, take a break and enjoy some their refreshments.
Raffle/Auction
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be letting you know some of the great raffle prizes we’re giving away and auction items that will going up. You’re don’t want to miss out on those.
I’ll be updating the Masters blog regularly with new information from the Stage Directors, Sponsors and Side Matches, so check back to keep up with what’s happening at the Masters and stay ahead of the competition!
And always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions, you can contact me directly at shari@shootingindustry.com

2012 Match
Returns To Rockcastle Shooting Center
FMG Publications announces the 2012 Shooting Industry Masters will be returning to south central Kentucky and the Rockcastle Shooting Center.
“The overwhelming reception we received from everybody in Kentucky, combined with ear-to-ear grins and positive feedback from this year’s match participants, made the decision to return to Rockcastle much easier,” said Randy Molde, Masters chairman.
The 10th Annual Shooting Industry Masters will be held July 20-21, 2012, at the Rockcastle Shooting Center, Park Mammoth Resort, in Park City, Ky.
“It’s with great pride that the Rockcastle Shooting Center welcomes back the Shooting Industry Masters,” said Nick Noble, CEO and cofounder, Rockcastle Shooting Center. “Kentucky will once again roll out the red carpet for the shooting industry, and we consider this opportunity a great honor. We would like to thank FMG for recognizing our shooting sports resort as the perfect location to host this prestigious event.”
The 2012 Masters will again support the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s First Shots program. The 2011 Masters drew a record-setting 370 shooters from 71 companies and organizations throughout the industry. The match raised $37,000 for First Shots, which brings the amount raised by the Masters for First Shots to $94,000 in three years.
“FMG is such a strong supporter of NSSF, including the First Shots program, a program that benefits everyone in the industry,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF president. “We’re very thankful for the support. We’re looking forward to the 2012 match, and we’d like to see everyone at the Masters next year: first, because it’s a lot of fun, and second, because the money raised will help us reach more new shooters through First Shots.”
The Masters is owned and operated by FMG Publications.
